Invisalign: Paul's special interest is Invisalign. Invisalign has swept America by offering a way to get the straight smile you've always wanted without the fuss of wearing a traditional brace. It involves no metal brackets, no wires, no lisp and no mouthful. Using a series of almost invisible aligners you can have straight teeth quickly, usually without having teeth extracted.

We have to import the aligners all the way from Santa Clara, California, but we have found it is worth it, and despite the logistics involved, you should find the course of treatment is cheaper than the traditional costs quoted for old fashioned 'train track' braces for adults.

"For twenty years I treated crooked smiles religiously with the old fashioned English braces but it was only when I trained to use the American systems that I fully realised what patients and dentists in the UK have been missing out on," says Paul.

Design your own smile: "Patients adore Invisalign; it is literally a dream come true: straighter teeth without being seen to wear a brace. I now do little else apart from Invisalign. Basically, if you want the old fashioned train-tracks 'brace face' look, you're going to have to look elsewhere. Invisalign isn't just great to look at; their computerised treatment plans and 3D models have put us light years ahead of the options previously available."

"You, the patient, are able to see the proposed treatment plan on the computer screen, and as a result you intrinsically have a 'hands on' chance to help design your own smile, make changes, and decide what you truly want to look like. We can even estimate to the nearest week exactly when your treatment will be complete. It has been my experience that the result is nearly always more comfortable, more accurate and more satisfying than the traditional techniques teenagers and adults around the country have been putting up with for decades. It usually takes less time, too."

Costs? The first appointment for Invisalign is completely free and without 'strings' so that we can discuss your needs and explain what's possible. Because we are a practice dedicated to this technique Invisalign themselves give us a very sizeable discount on their services, which currently represents a massive 40% price reduction. As a result typical costs for our patients are £2200-£2800, and for your convenience Paul has extended his hours on Saturdays, and offers some weekday early evenings.

"I like to quote a total price to patients as early as possible in the treatment planning process, to include every last potential item that may be needed, such as tooth whitening," says Paul. "A smile often needs a number of little details nudged in the right direction to become a truly great smile. For instance, orthodontics can make teeth straight, but it can't make a small tooth larger, or a dark tooth lighter. We may need to add a little porcelain to the occasional tooth or change the shape of a tooth that is too prominent."

Final touches: "Another key ingredient in planning our smiles is digital photography. As a rule, if we look great in photographs, we look great full stop. It is so irritating for all of us to see photos of us at a friend's wedding, say, and our heart sinks as we think 'Is that really what I look like these days?' I take digital photographs at a number of specific stages throughout your treatment and we discuss together how we can improve anything that catches the eye, or detracts from an otherwise great smile. The little details can mean everything. After all, you wouldn't write an essay and not put capital letters at the beginning of each sentence, dot your 'i's and cross your 't's."

Experience:

Paul has been using the Invisalign technique since 2003 and is now the largest single provider of Invisalign in the UK. His postgraduate training and research is unusual in the UK in that it is based specifically on the research and the skill needed for this particular kind of treatment. He is on the editorial advisory board of the journal Orthodontic Dentistry and lectures on the subject of Invisalign to postgraduates in both the UK and Europe.

His work and research into Invisalign has been widely published.

He has won awards including the Lonnon Bursary, a yearly prize for Orthodontics bestowed by London University and has been featured in magazines as diverse as Cosmopolitan and the dental section of Cosmetic Surgery Magazine. He is an Invisalign 'Preferred Provider' and a Clinical Speaker for Invisalign.

A Final P.S. A lot of patients travel a long distance to see us, even coming from abroad, so do tell reception when you ring up if you are travelling far, and then we can make sure we have time to get a bit more 'covered' to minimise the number of trips you'll need to make.
